Pump-dump-probe technique
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009680
A spectroscopic method used to investigate ultrafast chemical dynamics by sequentially exciting, waiting, and then probing a sample. A first laser pulse (pump) excites the molecules, followed by a second pulse (dump) that de-excites them to a specific state, and a third pulse (probe) then monitors the subsequent evolution. This technique provides insights into reaction pathways and intermediate species on femtosecond to picosecond timescales.
