Pump-probe technique

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009681

A time-resolved spectroscopic method employing two sequential laser pulses to investigate ultrafast processes in materials. A 'pump' pulse excites the sample, creating a non-equilibrium state, and a delayed 'probe' pulse monitors the subsequent changes. This technique is widely used to study excited state dynamics, charge transfer, and vibrational relaxation on femtosecond to picosecond timescales.
