Pyrogenic

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009704

Relating to a substance or agent that induces pyrexia, or fever, upon introduction into the body. Pyrogenic materials, such as bacterial endotoxins, trigger an inflammatory response that leads the hypothalamus to increase the body's thermoregulatory set point. The Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) test is a standard method for detecting the presence of pyrogenic bacterial endotoxins in pharmaceuticals.
