Random copolymer

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009918

A copolymer in which the chance of finding a given monomer unit at any position along the chain does not depend on the identity of the neighbouring units, so the sequence follows Bernoullian statistics. In radical copolymerization this arises when both reactivity ratios are close to 1, so the growing chain end adds either monomer with equal ease. The units show no repeating or blocky pattern.
