Re-extraction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010057
A second extraction operation in liquid-liquid distribution whose name is ambiguous, because the prefix can mean again or back. Properly it means repeating the extraction in the original direction, for example from aqueous solution into an organic phase, after the solute has been stripped. Transfer of the solute from the organic phase back into an aqueous phase is called stripping or back-extraction instead, so the prefix usage is discouraged.
