Re, Si

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013478

Descriptors for the two faces of a trigonal atom, such as the carbon of a carbonyl group, whose three ligands all differ. Viewed from a face, the Re face shows the ligands in clockwise order of decreasing Cahn-Ingold-Prelog priority, and the Si face shows them counterclockwise. The two faces are enantiotopic in an achiral molecule and diastereotopic in a chiral one.
