Redox mediation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010041

The process where an intermediate species, known as a mediator, facilitates electron transfer between an electrode and a reactant that does not directly interact with the electrode surface. The mediator is reversibly oxidized or reduced at the electrode and then reacts with the target analyte in solution. This approach is frequently employed in electroanalysis to overcome kinetic limitations or to analyze species that are not electroactive within the accessible potential window.
