Reflector voltage
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010095
The voltage applied to the mirror electrode of a reflectron mass spectrometer. It is defined by the energy at which ions would just fail to be turned back: an ion leaving the sample with an energy in electronvolts equal to this number in volts sits on the borderline between reflection and passing through. Positive ions are repelled by a positive potential, which is set above the voltage that accelerated them so that they reverse direction inside the mirror.
