Rigid membranes

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010357

Ion-selective membranes with a rigid structure, made either of a thin glass membrane or of a synthetic cross-linked polymer carrying fixed ionic sites. They are used in ion-selective electrodes, with the glass membrane of the pH electrode as the best known example. Crystalline salt membranes such as lanthanum fluoride form a separate class, and liquid membranes with mobile carriers a third.
