Saddle field gun
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010474
An ion source that generates a beam of ions or neutral atoms by creating a plasma within a saddle-shaped electrostatic field. Electrons oscillate within this field, increasing their path length and enhancing ionization efficiency. This type of source is often used in mass spectrometry for sputtering or etching applications, providing a stable and energetic ion beam.
