Scaffold hopping
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010537
A strategy in medicinal chemistry that involves replacing the core scaffold of a known active compound with a structurally distinct but bioisosteric or bioequivalent scaffold. This aims to discover novel compounds with similar biological activity but improved properties, such as pharmacokinetics or reduced toxicity. The process often employs computational methods to identify suitable alternative core structures.
