Saytzeff rule
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010536
A rule in organic chemistry that predicts the major product of an elimination reaction, specifically dehydrohalogenation or dehydration. It states that the alkene formed in the greatest amount is the one with the most highly substituted double bond, meaning the one with the most alkyl groups attached to the sp2 carbons. This is often referred to as the 'Zaitsev product'.
