Bredt's rule
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001491
A chemical rule stating that a double bond cannot be placed at the bridgehead position of a bridged bicyclic system if a small ring would be formed. This is due to the severe angle strain and unfavorable geometry that would result. The rule applies to rings with fewer than eight atoms in the bridge.
