Seizure
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010665
A transient occurrence of signs or symptoms resulting from abnormal, excessive, or synchronous neuronal activity in the brain. Manifestations include altered consciousness, involuntary muscle movements, and sensory disturbances. Exposure to certain neurotoxicants, particularly during prenatal or early postnatal development, can induce seizures or lower the threshold for their occurrence, distinguishing it from epilepsy, which is a condition of recurrent, unprovoked seizures.
