Shrinkage
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010834
The reduction in volume or linear dimensions of a material, often observed during processing or curing of polymers and gels. This phenomenon can occur due to solvent evaporation, chemical reactions that reduce molecular spacing, or thermal contraction upon cooling. In polymer molding, shrinkage must be accounted for in mold design to achieve desired part dimensions.
