Soliton
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011006
A self-reinforcing solitary wave packet that maintains its shape while propagating at a constant velocity. Solitons arise from a cancellation of nonlinear and dispersive effects within the medium through which they travel. In photochemistry, they can describe the propagation of an excitation or a structural deformation along a polymer chain without energy loss.
