Solonitsyn effect

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011007

An effect in which adsorption of a gas, or a reaction of it, on a photocatalyst takes place after the solid has first been irradiated, in vacuum or without the reagent present. The earlier light exposure alters the state of the solid, so the uptake differs from that of an unirradiated sample. It contrasts with photoadsorption, where the gas is taken up while the solid is illuminated.
