Coekelbergs effect

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002171

Adsorption on the surface of a photocatalyst that takes place in the dark, after the catalyst was first irradiated while in contact with the adsorbing species and the light has been switched off. It follows an initial stage of photoadsorption, and it shows that irradiation can alter an adsorbent so that its adsorptive behaviour persists without light. It contrasts with photoadsorption, which takes place only while the surface is illuminated.
