Split-flow thin-cell fractionation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011237
A continuous, semi-preparative separation in a thin laminar-flow channel with two inlets and two outlets, where an applied cross-field such as gravity, centrifugal force or a magnetic field moves suspended particles across the streams. Particles whose field-induced velocity exceeds a set cut-off leave by one outlet and the rest by the other, giving a binary split. It resembles field-flow fractionation but is not called that, and sample loads can reach gram scale.
