Asymmetrical flow field-flow fractionation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000866
A separation technique that separates macromolecules or particles based on their diffusion coefficients. The method uses a thin, flat channel with a semipermeable membrane on one wall, where a cross-flow perpendicular to the main channel flow forces analytes toward the membrane. Smaller particles, with higher diffusion rates, reach an equilibrium position farther from the membrane and are eluted faster by the parabolic flow profile of the main channel.
