Hyperlayer focusing field-flow fractionation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005516
A field-flow fractionation mode for particles larger than about 1 µm in which each particle settles at an equilibrium height in the channel where the external field force is balanced by hydrodynamic lift forces. Particles of different size or density occupy different layers away from the wall, so they travel at different velocities in the parabolic flow profile and elute at different times. It contrasts with the steric mode, in which particles are pressed against the accumulation wall.
