Coiled-tube field-flow fractionation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002189

A field-flow fractionation technique in which a long tube, usually ten metres or more, is wound into a coil and rotated so that an asymmetrical centrifugal field acts across the tube bore. Particles and macromolecules are driven toward one wall and are separated by size and density as the carrier liquid flows through the coil. The set-up is related to the coil planet centrifuge used for countercurrent chromatography.
