Coil-to-globule transition
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002190
A conformational change in a single polymer chain where it collapses from an extended, random coil state into a compact, dense globule. This transition occurs when the solvent quality worsens or temperature changes, making intramolecular attractive forces dominant over polymer-solvent interactions. It is a reversible process, often observed in dilute polymer solutions.
