Stacking interactions
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011274
Non-covalent attractive forces between aromatic rings that are stacked parallel or nearly parallel to each other. These interactions arise from the overlap of pi electron clouds and contribute significantly to the stability of biomolecular structures like DNA and RNA. They are weaker than covalent bonds but collectively provide substantial stabilization in macromolecular assemblies.
