Surface-enhanced infrared absorption

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013621

An analytical technique that amplifies the infrared absorption signals of molecules adsorbed onto a metallic surface, typically a nanostructured noble metal. This enhancement arises from the interaction between the adsorbate and the surface plasmons or electromagnetic fields generated by the metal. The technique provides increased sensitivity for detecting and characterizing thin films or monolayers on surfaces.
