Tail bud

A transient embryonic structure located at the posterior end of the developing vertebrate embryo. It consists of undifferentiated cells that contribute to the formation of the caudal (tail) regions, including posterior neural tube, somites, and mesoderm. This structure is prominent during early embryogenesis and regresses as development proceeds.
