Thermophile
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013653
An organism that thrives at relatively high temperatures, with optimal growth occurring between 45 °C and 80 °C. These microorganisms possess enzymes and cellular structures that are stable and functional under conditions that would denature most other life forms. Many thermophiles are found in hot springs, deep-sea hydrothermal vents, and compost piles.
