Thermosphere

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011992

The outermost layer of the Earth's atmosphere, located above the mesosphere, extending from approximately 80 kilometers to about 600 kilometers in altitude. It is characterized by a continuous increase in temperature with altitude due to the absorption of high-energy solar radiation by sparse atmospheric gases. Despite high temperatures, the low density of gas means it would feel cold.
