Uvula

A conical projection of soft tissue that hangs from the posterior margin of the soft palate, positioned at the back of the throat. It is composed of mucous membranes, muscle fibers, and connective tissue, giving it a flexible structure. A bifid or split uvula is a mild form of cleft palate and can indicate a submucous cleft, a condition sometimes associated with exposure to teratogens during fetal development.
