Verification

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012548

Confirmation, backed by objective evidence, that an item meets requirements that were specified beforehand. For an analytical method or instrument it means checking that stated performance characteristics such as precision, trueness and detection limit are actually achieved in the user's hands. Verification is distinct from validation, which shows that a method is suitable for a particular analytical purpose, and a laboratory typically verifies a standard method that has already been validated.
