Verdazyl radicals

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012547

A family of stable, delocalised organic free radicals built on the 1,2,4,5-tetrazine skeleton, in which a six-membered ring of four nitrogen and two carbon atoms carries an unpaired electron spread over the four nitrogen atoms. They are derived formally from the hydrazyl radical and are usually prepared with aryl groups at the 1, 3 and 5 positions. The first example, 1,3,5-triphenylverdazyl, forms air-stable crystals.
