Vicat softening temperature

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012572

The temperature at which a flat-ended needle of a specified cross-section penetrates a polymer specimen to a depth of 1 mm under a given load. This value indicates the temperature at which a polymer begins to soften significantly under heat and pressure. It is a measure of the polymer's resistance to heat distortion, determined by standard test methods like ISO 306.
