Virucide
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012591
A chemical or physical agent that deactivates or destroys viruses, rendering them incapable of infection. Unlike an antiviral drug, which inhibits viral replication within a host cell, a virucide acts directly on virus particles outside of cells. Virucidal agents include certain disinfectants like ethanol and sodium hypochlorite, as well as physical methods such as ultraviolet radiation.
