A defendant's answer to the plaintiff's replication in common law pleading. This constitutes the fourth stage of pleading in a lawsuit, following the plaintiff's declaration, the defendant's plea, and the plaintiff's replication. It serves to address new matters raised in the replication or to reassert previous arguments.
