Actinic flux

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003265

The total radiant energy per unit area per unit time, integrated over all directions, that is capable of inducing photochemical reactions in the atmosphere. It is a measure of the radiation field available to drive atmospheric photochemistry, distinct from irradiance which measures flux from a single direction. Actinic flux is typically measured in units of photons per square centimeter per second.
