Adsorption

The process by which molecules of a gas, liquid, or dissolved solid adhere to the surface of a solid or, less commonly, a liquid. In atmospheric science, it describes how gases or water vapor can attach to the surface of aerosol particles or ice crystals. This surface phenomenon differs from absorption, where a substance penetrates into the bulk of another.
