Distribution coefficient

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005072

A quantitative measure describing how a substance partitions itself between two immiscible phases at equilibrium. In atmospheric chemistry, it can refer to the ratio of a chemical's concentration in the gas phase to its concentration in the condensed phase, such as an aerosol particle or cloud droplet. This coefficient influences the atmospheric lifetime and transport of pollutants.
