Electronic excitation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005333
The process by which an electron in an atom or molecule absorbs energy and moves from a lower energy level to a higher one. This can occur through absorption of photons or collisions with other particles. When the electron returns to its ground state, it releases energy, often as a photon, contributing to phenomena like airglow and aurora.
