Garrett-Munk spectrum
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010520
An empirical model that describes the statistical distribution of energy among internal waves in the deep ocean as a function of frequency and wavenumber. The model provides a canonical representation of the background internal wave field, assuming it is horizontally isotropic and vertically symmetric. The Garrett-Munk spectrum, often denoted GM76 for its 1976 version, serves as a standard reference for oceanic internal wave energy.
