Gravitational potential
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006038
The potential energy per unit mass at a given point in a gravitational field. It represents the work done by gravity in moving a unit mass from infinity to that point. In meteorology, changes in gravitational potential are related to the vertical movement of air parcels and the stability of the atmosphere.
