Intermediate ion
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006595
A charged nanometer-sized atmospheric particle with an electrical mobility between that of small cluster ions and large ions, corresponding to a diameter of roughly 1.6 to 7.4 nanometers, or about 0.03 to 0.5 square centimeters per volt second. Intermediate ions appear when ions grow or new particles nucleate, and their concentration rises during nucleation bursts. The next class up, light large ions, spans roughly 7.4 to 22 nanometers.
