Local free-convection similarity

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007011

A theoretical framework describing the structure of the atmospheric boundary layer under conditions dominated by strong buoyancy-driven turbulence, where mechanical shear production of turbulence is negligible. It posits that the statistical properties of turbulence, such as velocity and temperature fluctuations, scale with local surface heat flux and height. This regime is often observed during daytime over strongly heated surfaces with light winds.
