Quantile

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010699

A point in a probability distribution that divides the range of a random variable into continuous intervals with equal probabilities. These values are used to characterize the distribution of meteorological data, such as temperature or precipitation. For example, the median is the 0.5 quantile, dividing the data into two equal halves.
