Radiometry
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008345
The science and technology of measuring electromagnetic radiation, including its intensity, distribution, and spectral characteristics. In atmospheric science, it involves using radiometers on satellites, aircraft, or the ground to measure radiation emitted or reflected by the Earth's surface and atmosphere. These measurements are used to determine atmospheric temperature profiles, water vapor content, and cloud properties.
