Alford rotation

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000087

A technique applied to multi-component seismic data, particularly shear-wave data, to determine the fast and slow shear-wave polarization directions and their corresponding time delays. This method involves rotating the horizontal receiver components to align with the natural fracture orientations in the subsurface. It is used to analyze anisotropy caused by aligned fractures or stress fields, providing insights into reservoir characteristics.
