Amines
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000107
Organic compounds derived from ammonia by replacing one or more hydrogens with carbon groups, used in drilling fluids as shale inhibitors, corrosion inhibitors, and emulsifier components. Polyamines adsorb on clay surfaces and slow the hydration of reactive shales, and film-forming amines coat steel to resist corrosion. Alkanolamines such as monoethanolamine and diethanolamine are better known for absorbing H2S and CO2 in gas treating plants.
