Bel
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000314
A logarithmic unit of measurement that expresses the ratio of two values of a power or root-power quantity, such as sound intensity or voltage. In geophysics, the decibel (dB), which is one-tenth of a bel, is commonly used to quantify seismic signal amplitudes, attenuation, and noise levels. A 20 dB increase represents a tenfold increase in amplitude.
