Bottomhole shut-in

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000422

The closing of a valve located at the bottom of the wellbore, near the producing formation, to stop fluid flow into the well. This method isolates the reservoir pressure from wellbore storage effects, providing more accurate pressure transient data during well tests. It is often achieved using a downhole shut-in tool or a packer with a sliding sleeve.
