Cement retarder

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000616

A chemical additive used to prolong the setting time of cement slurry, allowing more time for placement in deep or hot wells. This extended working time prevents premature hardening of the cement before it reaches its intended position. Lignosulfonates, hydroxycarboxylic acids, and cellulose derivatives are common types of cement retarders, with their effectiveness depending on concentration and temperature.
