Decollement

A detachment fault or zone of décollement, where a block of overlying rock has slid over an underlying block, often along a weak sedimentary layer like shale or salt. This structural feature separates deformed rocks above from undeformed or differently deformed rocks below. Decollements are common in fold-and-thrust belts and can influence hydrocarbon migration.
